IQWiG Symposium "Cost-Benefit Assessment"

A scientific methodology was developed with the support of a group of international health economists, which enables assessment of the relation between the costs and benefits of treatments (in addition to assessment of the pure benefit). With these cost-benefit assessment methods, IQWiG takes into account its expanded responsibilities, which were assigned to the Institute in the most recent health care reform (Statutory Health Insurance - Act to Promote Competition) of April 2007.

The methodology was explained in detail by IQWiG and members of the international expert panel at the IQWiG Symposium "Cost-Benefit Assessment" on 26 February 2008 in Berlin. In this context, it was important to IQWiG and the speakers to create opportunity for constructive discussions about the possibilities and limitations of cost-benefit assessments.
